Five tips for the perfect workstation

The decision to purchase a workstation instead of a standard PC is often relatively simple due to the productivity advantages, even if the costs are somewhat higher.

The next important decision is to select the right workstation to best meet your needs.

The key to optimal performance is balance.

1st Processor

The choice of the right processor depends on the required applications and workflows. First, determine whether the applications you are running require a lot of processing power for high workloads, or whether the focus is more on interactive processing. If you spend more time on compute-intensive rendering, it's usually worth investing in more cores. If your focus is on CAD modeling, investing in a fast processor is more recommended.

2. memory

Studies show that users working in design and construction should equip their systems with twice as much memory as the largest model they work with. This prevents continuous disk access and doubles performance. In addition, you should evenly allocate all available DIMM slots to increase memory bandwidth.

3. graphics card

Most users working in design and construction can achieve balanced performance with a medium-performance professional graphics card or even an entry-level graphics card. Experience has shown that it makes sense to choose a card that displays more than 30 frames per second in the most important applications for the user.

4. mass storage

Most high-end desktop systems are configured with hard drives, but professional users can benefit from the added performance of solid-state hard drives (SSDs). Studies have shown that SSDs offer double or triple productivity, especially when opening and closing multiple files and working with large amounts of data.

5. online tools

You will find online tools and resources on the Internet from the various manufacturers that will help you choose the ideal configuration.

The manufacturers offer the configuration via product / industry or via the most common applications.

6. balance

Create a balanced system where there are no bottlenecks due to low performance components and that meets your current and future requirements.

Choosing a properly configured workstation on a tight budget is not difficult - it simply requires an understanding of some simple alternatives and an openness to cost-effective performance-enhancing technologies.
